Creativity comes with experience, you might find that an odd concept but before you can truly be creative you must first master your craft inside and out, only then do you really have the freedom to be creative.
When it comes to wedding photography, to have confidence in your own abilities is paramount to having success in creating meaningful images clients will love. When a photographer knows their gear and its capabilities inside and out they can express their creative style without a second thought.
Award winning wedding photographers will all display the same few characteristics when it comes to how they photograph. They will rarely have to check their settings, they will see the shot they want to take beforehand and coach and guide their subjects accordingly. They will also be so in touch with their creative side that when they do see a great shot, they will get excited. Creative wedding photographers are artists and they will all express these qualities in different ways.
Your friends and family will have recommended wedding photographers to you in the past based on their overall experience, yet one key factor still comes up every time, “they really knew what they were doing” it’s a phrase you should not ignore.
When you invest in a wedding photographer, especially award winning wedding photographers, you can expect to pay more for their knowledge, experience and creativity. Inexpensive wedding photographers are often still learning or mastering their style and craft, some simply are yet to know their worth. There are inexpensive wedding photographers that are brilliant and creative, but choose to do it as a side job. In these cases they often are very passionate about what they do, yet as it is not their primary source of income they can afford to charge a little less.
So why do some photographers choose to enter competitions and join organisations that recognise their talent and skills while other do not. It is as simple and preference, Award winning wedding photographers are interested in the pursuit of accolades and acknowledgement of their skills. To win an award or be recognised for anything that you are proud of it an amazing feeling, yet some photographers just don’t have the time or find the need to do so.
Each photographer’s journey from when they pick up their first camera to when they are shooting weddings and have a plethora of satisfied and grateful clients, is completely different. It makes no difference how you get to where you are going as long as you learn all the lessons along the way and still have the passion and love for your job as a wedding photographer at the end of the day.
