Cultural Weddings – Choosing a photographer
Your wedding is the most important event of your life thus far and in most cases weddings last for a few hours and it is off to the honeymoon, in some cultures weddings can far exceed that.
Indian weddings last for 3 days with events leading up to and beyond the ceremony itself. There are many different traditions that have pre-wedding ceremonial events including most Asian weddings.
Does this mean you need to choose a photographer specialising in Indian wedding photography or Asian wedding photography? No -not necessarily, with every wedding your wedding photographer needs to be adaptable and consistent, Good wedding photographers know that two weddings are never the same as is the case with culturally diverse weddings in Australia.
What to look for when choosing a photographer for your Asian or Indian wedding;
You will want to find a wedding photographer that is able to provide coverage of the entire event start to finish, this ensures your images will be seamless and look great when compiled together in say, an album.
You may need someone that employs a 2nd if not 3rd Some of these events happen in unison at different locations for example the groom may have pre-wedding traditions that occur the same day as the brides and both of these events would need to be covered.
You don’t need them to have experience in this field necessarily, what you will need to do is make sure they are fully aware of all proceedings and have a rock solid timeline. With weddings of this nature any lateness can carry throughout the entire wedding and you will need to stick to your time line as best as you can.
Traditionally Asian and Indian weddings are known for the extended family that are invited and guest lists can easily exceed 200 people, for this reason your wedding photographer will need to have a family portrait list and a family member to assist in gathering relatives.
Is language a barrier? Make sure that if you or your guests do have any language barriers with your wedding photographer that a suitable family member or friend is able to assist with any announcements your photographer will need to make or directions during bridal party photographs.
When searching for a wedding photographer you will need to work with them, in most cases, to determine the wedding photographer’s rates for the day/s. As this is not your typical 8 hour wedding day its likely when you find a wedding photographer they will need to customise a wedding photography package to suit your individual needs.
Cultural weddings are just beautiful often they are filled with colour and tradition, this is something you will want documented to share in years to come. To make sure you have chosen the right wedding photographer for the job, enquire about meeting with them prior to
